Following the news about Sacha Baron Cohen making a feature film of his third iconic character/caricature, Bruno, word is out that he’ll step back into his Kazahkstan moustache for a sequel to Borat. Evil overlord Chairman of News Corp. Rubert Murdoch has recently announced in a press conference that 20th Century Fox will definitely have Borat back. Don’t expect it too soon, as Bruno (with Universal Pictures) will be next.
But over at Dark Horizons, apparently Rup was overstepping the mark a bit. According to them, Cohen has only had “casual discussions” about making a Borat sequel, “nothing close to a locked-in project”. I’d be surprised if the sequel didn’t get made. Cohen has been with Ali-G, Borat, and Bruno for quite some time and has written nothing else. If he had new ideas for something entirely different, we would have heard of it by now. And considering the commercial success of Borat (over 150 million dollars worldwide), I’m sure it won’t be long before we’ll be hearing some very niiice news.
