A MGS movie would put a great fault in the Metal Gear series (and anything Metal Gear period). Being a crazed Metal Gear fan myself. It would disappoint alot of fans. Even if it is good (highly unlikely) Who would be the cast? Nobody would be able to fill in for the Metal Gear game cast. I have no idea what Hideo is thinking, but it would not help the already award winning games he made. Also, about an anime thing...Now that would be worth seeing because there are no bogus Hollywood actors and actresses, if anyone agrees with me. Somebody should make a big petition or something. It might seem like I am over exaggerating but most Metal Gear fans take MG really serious, like I.

Why make live action? Why not do a full CGI, the in game cinematic is already excellent. Besides if the movie is cgi hollywood won't ruin it like it did with other movies based on video games. And no headaches about which actor has the right look. Hideo can make the character look more japanese.

There’s a new site that has all the information, screenshots and details in one place, might be good to follow.

http://mgs.moviechronicles.com/

I personally think Kurt Russell or Hugh Jackman would be good.

But why would Russell want to play a character who is a rip off of a character he originated? That would be like Keanu Reeves in Christian Bale's role in Equilibrium.

Well, having Kurt Russel play Snake isn't such a long shot. In Escape from New York, he played the "bad-ass ex-government agent" Snake Plissken, from which Solid Snake's character is said to be derived.

I agree with eoin that video games could be great sources for movies (emphasis on COULD BE)... it's just that all video game movies so far have been butchered.

A Final Fantasy story would be be awesome, but it would never work as a single movie. The stories of FF would be similar to the LotR trilogy of movies.

I'm an obsessed final fantasy fan and my opinion is that you can't base a FF movie on one big action event in a single movie, it'd have to told across a trilogy.

Lorin, I agree on both points. The Resident Evil 'feel' is based on a slow build-up of tension. I've onlt seen the first movie, but when the protagonist begins to karate kick mutant mutts, I gave up entirely on the film. Again, it relies too much on action, and not enough on slow tension.

As for Final Fantasy the movie, I agree it sucked. But that's not to say a good film could be made from one of the games' realms.

Those Resident Evil films are atrocious. The second one barely even counts as a movie, with some of the shittiest effects and sets I've seen in a movie of any stripe. As for Final Fantasy, they made that movie, and it sucked balls too.

I'd have to disagree with no game conversion to a movie has ever been good, the resident evil movies were very good IMO. Although I would have preferred to have seen the story from Leon and Claire's perspective in RE2. Compare it to the amount of horridly poor games made from movies.. and they're about even.

I prefer to think of Sony as a collection of individuals, as opposed to a single corporate monolith. Using incorrect grammar helps me to do this.

"Sony are planning" should be "Sony is planning" Sony is a single entity it is not a plural. I've seen this basic goof on many reviews and it hurts my brain. Come on, you can do it - right.

I think video games should be the source for movies. A lot of them are very imaginative (e.g. final Fantasy). The problem is that all adaptations so far have been made by very lazy producers who seem to care about explosions and action. A bit more thought, and a bit more chracter, and you could come up with something good. I agree with above that the story of Metal Gear Solid is awful (I skipped past most of the dialogue moments on the PS1 version), but it could act as the basis for a fun story.

Uwe Boll is going to be no where this movie.. thank god!

At E3 Kojima said he wasn't involved. I'm not sure exactly what he said..? There was a post on AICN that mentioned it: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/23294

"Kojima emphasizes Uwe Boll will not be associated with the project in any way."
