‘Marty’ was the big winner of the 1955 Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor — Ernest Borgnine , Director -Delbert Man, and adapted screenplay- Paddy Chayefsky. What you didn’t know about the movie us the fact that promoting it to critics actually cost the film studio more money than the film itself. The film was made for $343,000 while the studio spent over $400,000 trying to get votes for the film. The investment paid off in a big way. Not only has the film grossed over $3,000,000 in video sales it was deemed “culturally significant” by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, in 1994.
