Mark Burnett, along with the original host and producer Ralph Edwards, will do a remake on the classic TV show “This Is Your Life.” For those of you older guys, maybe you already know how the show works, but for young ones, the show surprises celebrity guests with people from their past. It is usually a celebrity or public figure, occasionally an ordinary citizen and, consulting the “red book”, conduct a biography of the subject in a television studio. The subject would be presented with family members and old friends, reunited with old acquaintances, and often shed a tear when a personal tragedy was recounted.
The show started out as a radio program in 1948. It aired as a TV series on NBC from 1952-61, then had a brief revival in 1972.
Broadcasters have shown recent interest in biographical reality shows. Fox’s dark-side effort “The Moment of Truth,” NBC’s “Amnesia” and ABC’s “Opportunity Knocks” are game shows in which contestants are quizzed about elements of their own lives.
