‘Lucky You’ Getting Chilly Reception

May 2nd, 2007 in Actors, Opening Today

It is never a good sign when a studio continues to push back a release date in movie. Any film novice knows this fact, and when the picture finally does see the light of day it usually a feeding frenzy. ‘Lucky You’, which doesn’t look lucky at all, is receiving this treatment as we speak. Rotten Tomatoes, who has 6 reviews posted so far, has given the film a big fat Zero. Nada, Zilch, Nothing. Variety just panned the movie so expect other film critics to really start piling on.

It is a shame, really, because poker movies usually are pretty good. This particular one is based on the 2003 World Series of Poker. I am gonna take a wild stab here and predict its not as bad as the critics would make you believe. I also feel, based on the Friday release of the film, the studio will pick up some would be Spiderman movie goers as screenings will likely sell out.

The saving grace of the film is the stellar casting. Here is who you will see if you decide to throw caution to the wind and see the film like I will be doing.

Huck Cheever - Eric Bana
Billie Offer - Drew Barrymore
L.C. Cheever - Robert Duvall
Suzanne Offer - Debra Messing
Ready Eddie - Horatio Sanz
Roy Durucher - Charles Martin Smith
Lester - Saverio Guerra
Michelle Carson - Jean Smart

I don’t know yet if I’ll see this film in a theater, but I will see “Lucky You” eventually because it was directed and co-written by Curtis Hanson.
