The trades are reporting that Richard Loncraine (Band of Brothers) has replaced Peter Morgan as director on The Special Relationship for HBO/BBC Films.
Written by Morgan, the film would follow the unique and turbulent relationship between British Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President Bill Clinton back in the ‘90s.
Michael Sheen and Helen McCrory are set to play Tony and Cherie Blair, while Dennis Quaid and Julianne Moore would play their US counterparts.
No reason for Morgan not directing was disclosed. However, he will remain “integrally involved in every aspect of the production” in his role as a writer/executive producer.
