Lady In The Water DVD Review: WTF!?!?!December 19th, 2006 in Dvd, Reviews |
Wow. Just wow. I don’t even know what to think about this one. If I stayed up for three straight days eating nothing but Lucky Charms, cheese pizza, and drinking bottles of cheap wine, my following dreams would make more sense than Lady In The Water.
This movie is about a lonely building super (Paul Giamatti) who reluctantly helps out a strange woman who came from inside the neighborhood pool. With the assistance of a man with one buff arm, an expert crossword puzzler, an Asian college student, and numerous other building tenants, Giamatti deciphers folklore and battles ‘monsters’ to help the woman find her way back to her home. Confused yet? Well, how about the strange woman from the pool may or may not be a mythical creature sent here to help someone fulfill their destiny to change the world? Now you’re confused. Seventy minutes into the movie and you’ll understand it all, then probably turn off your DVD player.
I honestly felt this was a really bad movie, but a really well written story. I would have rather read this in an issue of Highlights Magazine or the entertainment section of the Sunday paper. I’m starting to believe M. Night Shyamalan has a permanent green light on anything he ever writes. It’s eventually going to cost someone their job. All in all, it’s worth renting for the story, but only worth buying if you collect Shyamalan movies.
