Kevin Spacey is Done with Film ActingJune 14th, 2007 in Actors |
Hollywood star Kevin Spacey said today that he no longer cares about his movie career, and that he is through with acting. It doesn’t appear to be a decision that he made overnight either, but rather, after several years of being in the business and achieving great success, he came to this conclusion.
The American Beauty star told London Tonight that he loved his current position as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic theatre. Spacey has held that position since 2003.
“I don’t care about my personal acting career any more. I’m done with it. After 10 years of making movies and going better than I ever could have imagined, I sort of had to ask myself: ‘What am I supposed to do with all of this success that I have had? Am I just going to keep making movie after movie and be concerned with all of that ‘Are you up, are you down, are you hot, are you not?’, and I don’t really care. What I care about is working with people, what I care about is the remarkable experience of being able to be a part of bringing people together,” said Spacey.
Spacey serves not only as the Old Vic’s artistic director, but he has also acted in a number of the theatre’s productions, including Richard II and Moon for the Misbegotten. In the 2007-2008 season, Spacey is set to take the lead role in David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow.
Kevin Spacey won an Oscar for his role in American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes. It seems the two will be working together once again, with Mendes directing The Tempest and Hamlet at the Old Vic. Other plays on tap for this season include Gaslight, All About My Mother, and Cinderella.
