Katie From Batman Begins to Wonder Woman?

According to an unnamed source in Star Magazine, Katie Holmes is apparently in the running for the Warner Bros. adaptation of the DC Comic, Wonder Woman.
“The movie’s only at the discussion state, but Katie feels this role as a kick-ass superhero will put her back in the public eye. She wants to show her stuff, and she wants to prove that she can stand on her own two feet without Tom’s help. Tom, at times, feels compelled to oversee Katie’s career, but Katie is bent on doing this alone. She actually scheduled the meeting when she knew Tom wasn’t going to be able to be there.”
Hmmm. Its the first bit of news about this project since March, but its not exactly good news. It seems a lot people - perhaps even Katie herself - seems to think Holmes bombed out of Batman Begins because of Tom Cruise. This, of course, wasn’t the case. Katie Holmes didn’t work in Batman Begins because the fans didn’t like Katie Holmes. Â
There’s also the problematic logic that this role will help Katie Holmes’ lagging public image no matter what. The blunt truth is if fans rejects Holmes as they did in Batman Begins, the entire thing could backfire with even worse ramifications.Â
Rachel Dawes was an entirely fictional character in the framework of Batman Begins, but Wonder Woman is a seminal figure in not only comics, but pop culture. Now more than ever, the next Wonder Woman actress will have to work exceptionally hard to win over the fan base for one of the most recognizable female figures this side of graphic fiction. Fans are already miffed about Joss Whedon’s departure - they don’t want to start a list to add to their greviances.

The problem is Katie has a negative presence. The right actress could have overcome the role of Rachel Dawes but she was lame in it, like having to take your little brother on a date. If she does Wonder Woman the only good thing that will come of it is that it will bomb so badly we’ll probably never see Katie again. I would rather see Lynda Carter reprise the role. Another comic book adaptation down the drain, oh well.

I can easily see this going the way of Electra. Its going to need lots of really subtle humor to even be taken seriously (Im thinking Charlie’s Angels type stuff without the McG McTestosterone levels). I would love to see Jessica Biel in something like this.

I don’t think I’d go that far , topop. With Elektra, you can tell the writers looked at the comics and the first thing they said was “Hey, ninjas!” - and then they lost all control. I think there’s far more of an illustrious back-drop with Wonder Woman - no matter who they get to play her. Still, I’m not sure I can actually see Warner Bros. approving Katie Holmes given the negative reaction not only from fans, but from the media in general.
