A copy of “Suburban Girl” DVD came in the mail last week, and I finally got a chance to view it. I’ve read the book, The Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing, the movie is based a couple of short stories from the book. I found it a casual read. The film too comes across that way, casual movie. It promotes itself as a romantic comedy; but it’s not, more of a drama about the relationships between fathers and daughters.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alec Baldwin star with a supporting cast worth mentioning, Jill Eikenberry and James Naughton.
Alec Baldwin surprised me. I hadn’t seen him on film in awhile. He made the film worth watching, playing the older man, love interest to Gellar. I cared about every scene he was in. I was quite impressed.
If you would like the copy I viewed, the first person to correctly answer this quiz question gets the DVD.
What was Alec Baldwin’s character’s name on “Knot Landing”?

I was hoping this was a romantic comedy as it seemed nice to finally have Sarah in something that wasn’t horror. I’ll have to watch it to see how she does as you didn’t really seem to comment on her. Thanks.

Yes, you are right. I didn’t comment on her. Perhaps, I should have done so. I remember her from “Buffy the Vampire” but never saw the show.
To me the movie is not a comedy. I believe the supporting cast has a lot to do with making a movie funny. The director tired but missed the mark.
Again, Alec Baldwin was exceptional and deserves a mention.
