Variety reports that Weinstein Co. has optioned the feature rights to Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, the biographical book on the actress and singer written by Gerald Clarke.
The book, published in 2000, details how the actress and singer was plagued by personal problems and was mistreated by employers, friends and family. Garland died at the age of 47 in 1969.
Clarke’s credits include the biography of Truman Capote, which served as the basis for Dan Futterman’s Oscar-nominated Capote script.
