"Jerichow"

“Jerichow” is an edgy film from Christian Petzold, the director of “Yella.” It takes place in former East Germany, where jobs are hard to come by. Thomas (Benno Fürmann), whose life empty life resembles his equally empty bank account, takes a job with a wealthy Turkish immigrant named Ali (Hilmi Sözer) ,who is similarly unloved by his wife, Laura (Nina Hoss), and his adoptive land.

This triangle of trust, resentment and desire feels similar to “The Postman Always Rings Twice.” True love does not stand a chance here as it gets crowded out by the need for money and a place to call home. In German. NR.
