But the news is not as good as we’d all hoped it’d be, folks. In fact, the news is sadly and sorely lacking. The problem here, of course, is that he’s getting involved in animation, but he’s only getting involved as a producer.
So anyone who hoped that there might be another Kung Fu Panda in our immediate future is going to be sadly disappointed. See, he’s neck deep in a production arrangement with Illumination Pictures, who’s bringing us Despicable Me and one other project to be named later.
This, frankly, is sad news. For every one of us who enjoyed Kung Fu Panda and wished that Jack Black would stop doing those idiotic alleged comedies like Tropic Thunder and The Pick of Destiny and all those others in which he basically plays the same character over and over in a slightly different setting (not to mention that whole prayer to Satan thing he did at the MTV Music Awards–that was just low-brow, joke or otherwise), and wanted to see him do different and interesting things like Po the Panda, well, we’re all just a little extra downtrodden today.
