Is Crowe or Cruise in New Trek?

August 24th, 2007 in Actors, Movie News, Sci-Fi

CaptainPikeRumor has it either or possibly both Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe could be making an appearance in the next Star Trek film.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the J.J. Abrams-helmed sci-fi reboot wants to peg big name actors in either the role of Captain Christopher Pike - the ill-fated pre-Kirk Enterprise captain - or the movie’s unnamed villain.

Crowe has been less than forthcoming about the chance of his name filling either roles, and nothing has surfaced about the likelihood of Tom Cruise either. Still, in a movie that will reshape much of what we associate with the Trek franchise, a strong casting for especially Pike could go a long way to redefine the character, who was last seen disfigured and basically mute in the first series.

J.J. Abram’s Star Trek XI is set for a December 2008 release.
