Invincible DVD Review: Football, before the fair catch rule.

Another football movie. Luckily it’s more like Remember The Titans and less like Varsity Blues.
Disney’s Invincible is the true story of Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg), a thirty year-old die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan that is tired of seeing his beloved team being slaughtered game after game, year after year. He spends his life fighting for work hours at the local bar and playing tackle football with his neighborhood friends in his free time. After Coach Dick Vermeil takes over the Eagles and holds an unprecedented open try-out, Papale’s friends urge him to realize a dream and play for the home team, hopefully sparking an impossible run for the playoffs.
Invincible is a typical against-all-odds story that makes you root for the underdog and gives you that warm tingling feeling inside that only bourbon can duplicate. I liked it. It helped that I wasn’t up on my NFL history or did any research for it, so I had no idea what to expect. I was especially entertained by the pre-fair catch gameplay they featured. I forgot what it was like to see a punt returner get floored as soon as he catches the ball before they changed the rules for players’ “safetyâ€. Even if you do know the story or even if you don’t like football, you will still enjoy the success story with the love angle that Disney decided to sneak in there. Really good movie. Rent it or buy it. Enjoy.
