Fresh from the widespread acclaim that his sitcom Everybody Hates Chris is receiving, comedian Chris Rock has a feature film coming out in the US in March, entitled I Think I Love my Wife. From the trailer, it looks like a rather domestic comedy about that ancient temptation known as infidelity. In a pleasant relationship with his attractive wife, complacent Chris finds himself drawn to the mistress of an old friend, injecting a bit of excitement into his life.

It’s being billed as a “sophisticated comedy”, which generally means not very funny at all. That said, I’ve always enjoyed Everybody Hates Chris. Its quirky characters and self-depreciating humour are just enough to pass half an hour. However, even the trailer is scarce on the laughs, and 90 minutes of mild humour may not sustain. Let’s not forget that Head of State, also written and directed by Rock, was not exactly the political satire it should have been. And while this film looks better than the usual crap Chris Rock acts in, I can only hope it surpasses its trailer.

I Think I Love My Wife is out on March 16.

I actually loved Head of State, which I stand by as massively underrated. For this new one, it has two things standing in it’s corner. It’s supposed to be rated R, and it’s co-written by Louis C.K., a man who jokes about leaving his kid in a garage can.

Maybe this remake will encourage more people to see Eric Rohmer’s Chloe in the Afternoon. Probably not, though.
