mel gibsonNow here’s a strange little nugget for you–seems that there are stirrings, very early stage highly dubious rumor sort of stirrings, mind you, that Mel Gibson may well be coming back to tackle Mad Max.

It seems that Gibson’s production company Icon Entertainment would like to take on a co-production credit.  Now, that gives the current company a lot of extra ammo in terms of production values, but with Mel as a co-producer, he could “call in a favor”, as it were.  This could mean just about anything–casting as the lead villain, for example, or narration, or even just a brief cameo.

I actually like this idea, because it gives the new sequel a bit of a touchstone to the original.  Sure, Mel’s a bit long in the tooth to play Max outright, but there’s no reason he couldn’t pull a Keith Richards and maybe play Max’s dad or something.

And the guy IS a still a pretty good actor, no mistake.  So maybe this’ll work out well for everybody!  Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
