HBO has committed to making all of its 26 program feeds available in 1080 line-interlace (1080i) HDTV. The hig-def expansion was announced today by HBO Chairman and CEO Bill Nelson. HBO plans to begin the expansion later this year, and anticipates completion by the end of the second quarter of 2008.
HBO currently offers only two high-def channels - HBO HDTV and Cinemax HDTV. HBO HDTV launched in 1999, and Cinemax HDTV launched in 2003. HBO notes that they have also considered making HBO on Demand available in HDTV, but that that move has been delaed by copy-protection concerns relating to older HDTV sets.
