Actor Danny Trejo revealed this week that Machete, the first trailer shown before the Grindhouse double feature of Planet Terror and Death Squad, will now be turned into its own feature film.

Trejo played the title character in the Machete trailer, and first broke the news on the red carpet Tuesday night at the 1408 premiere.

It has been speculated that the film would be made into a direct-to-DVD feature, but Trejo says otherwise. He claims that the plan now is to release the film in theaters.
“We’re doing it. We’re going to try and get it done this year.,” said Trejo.
