Griffin’s Acceptance Speech – Censored!

200px-kathygriffin2.jpgIn a bizarre twist of events, comedian Kathy Griffin’s raucous acceptance speech for her Emmy will be edited when the event, which was taped, is shown Saturday on the E! channel. Kathy Griffin’s offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night. This has been the decision of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

In her speech, Griffin said that “a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.” She went on to hold up her Emmy, make an off-color remark about Christ and proclaim, “This award is my god now!”

According to the TV academy and E!, when the four hour-plus ceremony is edited into a two-hour program, Griffin’s remarks will be shown in “an abbreviated version” in which some language may be bleeped.

The organization may have another delicate issue to consider, this one involving an off-color fake music video that aired last December on “Saturday Night Live” and won a creative arts Emmy for best song.

Andy Samberg of “SNL” said Saturday that he had yet to be asked by the TV academy to perform the tune with Timberlake on the Fox broadcast, but he was willing. Timberlake, on a concert tour, is scheduled to be in Los Angeles next weekend.

The subject of their “(Blank) in a Box” video: wrapping a certain part of the male anatomy and presenting it to a loved one as a holiday present.

Griffin is a comedic oaf. When a “comic” has to reach into the God bin for material, it tells me she is completely dry of creativity. The last guy I remember doing that, then going completely off the deep end was Sam Kinison. Look what happened to him. God will not be mocked. Griffin’s comedy is weak, and she’s headed in the wrong direction with it. Not only should she be censored, but no one should take the time to watch her rant. I know I won’t waste my time.

Religious people get to rant all the time about atheists being worthless, amoral and damned – but let someone say ANYTHING untoward about their particular brand of magic and WHAM! their underwear is suddenly in a knot.

okay, i understand that people are offended by what she said. who cares? i am offended when people thank the invisible, unreal god. come on, why do we let “the church” control what we say. this is ridiculous. why is the general public offended so much by this. god didn’t create anything, and this world is not 6000 years old…get a college education, then you all will see that religion is a way for people to use to start trouble…

I have no problem with what was said. For one, it’s comedy either you find it funny or you dont. Second, she finally said something that made sense, she is taking credit herself for her work not giving credit to a religious figure. With regards to Sam Kinison, Sam was an ordained minister so with regard to Lou’s comment, he had first hand knowledge of what he was talking about. I get sick and tired of people not wanting to take credit for their own work and saying that it’s all because of a “higher power”. “I would like to thank (insert religious figure here) for all of my life accomplishments since I cant take any credit for myself”. Please

When so many public figures, politicians, artists, etc. publicly thank their “god” (in sincerity or sometime in total hypocrisy) for all their successes, those of us who think our own efforts, or lack thereof, are behind the results rather than some obscure and unknown “force”, we let them say whatever they wish to say. But if someone like Griffin dares say what she said, quite factual and inoffensive in my view, the religious groups quickly rise up. Organized religion (which I distinguish from honestly felt faith, even though I’m not in that group) is the source of intolerance in our society. It breeds racism, terrorism and what have you. And the catholic church is not safe from this. History (even recent history) shows us that many catholics don’t mind using their god given faith to justify the suffering, the injustice and the hatred they cause.

Why is it always the Catholics that have to have something to say? Christians really wear on my nerves but the Catholics are just intolerable! Whatever happened to Freedom of Speech? I am so sick of seeing the billboards “BEWARE!! Jesus is coming!” or “Are you Saved?”….and what about the freaks that sit on the sides of the road with millions of “I Luv Jesus” stickers plastered all over their cars/vans holding up signs “Jesus loves you!”….Yes, I am Pagan and what do you think would happen if I plastered my vehicle with “The Goddess Loves You” or “My other vehicle is a broom” or “It’s your Hell you burn in it!” stickers and parked right next to the bible-thumper? I guarantee the cops would be called and I’D be asked to leave! Or what if I put up a billboard reflecting my religious beliefs? We are told we are free to express our religious beliefs…but no one has read the teenie tiny super fine print below that saying…”as long as it agrees with us!”

Kathy wasn’t doing anything but telling the TRUTH! Jesus had NOTHING to do with her winning her award! SHE is the only person responsible for that! And just like most excellent comedians, she was trying to get a reaction out of the public. So right now she’s sitting wherever she is saying, “HA! It worked!” She’s brilliant!

Atta girl. Credit where credit is due, that excludes jesus from credit for anything since he’s a mythical figure regardles if he actually lived ir not.
So in response to Kathy’s remark about jesus, a sheeple raises a fearful warning implying that god (I assume that he assumes it to be “his” god) arranged for a drunk teenager to kill Sam Kineson. Absurd on so many levels. Your god sounds like an asshole, and totally humourless.
And then a claim she has weirder beliefs than the anointed followers of jesus, like perhaps scientology. From what I have read about her, she describes herself as a militant atheist, that’s not reconcilable with being a scientologist, not even by the mind bending logic of your average fundy christian. Well, I might be wrong about fundy logic not concluding that but let’s say anybody with an actual grasp of reality would not put scientologists and atheists in the same philosophical corner.
She’s a comedian, either laugh at her stuff or don’t laugh, but if you can’t take a joke about jesus or religion, then you have a problem, not the joker.
And for “finding out” if there is a god or not when you die, it’s a virtual certainty nobody will find out anything. But don’t worry, you won’t be disappointed either, that goes hand in hand with nonexistence, just like the thousands of gods humans have created, all nonexistent.
I envy the human race when or if it can shake off the delusional viruses, god religions.
We have better things to do.

Wow. As a Christian man I am a bit disappointed that her comment would be censored. To believe or not in Christ is a choice and I would hate to think that my brothers and sisters would want to muzzle those who disagree. Given the world today, I think that would put us in some very bad company. If she wants to say Jesus had nothing to do with her award, let her if that’s how she feels. We are not the ones she should have to fear. For me, to hear someone say what she did makes me more sad than angry. She will be in my prayers. Even she can’t stop that.

MARYM you really need to educate yourself before you state comments that are false, often times people will disregard everything you have to say when they come across what could be perceived to be a lie or just plain ignorance. Which really is a waste of all that bible thumping. I stopped considering anything you had to say when you alluded to Griffin being a scientologist while insulting scientology. I dont believe in your god or their “aliens” but I give you the respect to worship what you will on your own without insulting your ideals. Maybe you should be a good Christian (or whatever you consider yourself) and actually live the lessons you learned instead of just pointing fingers.

You stated that you wouldnt insult my ideals and that you would give me repect to worship, then you insulted my beliefs and disrespected me by calling me a bible thumper. So what you have to say means nothing either. I am living the lessons God teaches in the bible (not that you would know what they are) I am standing up for God and sometimes that is very tough. But as Griffin was tough in saying what she said, so can I -it is not ignorance it is my opinion which I have a right to. A GOD given right.

    Marym,
Are you truly living the lessons of god? Are you stoning people to death for adultery? Are you also putting people to death for working on the Sabbath? I’m curious; how do you avoid prosecution? Does your god hide your crimes from the authorities? I would laugh at your concept of why we are in Iraq if it wasn’t so sad. Don’t fool yourself, we are in Iraq because of religion. Ask yourself and everyone you see; when was the last time that your rights were being oppressed by the middle east? I’m going to guess, hmmm…. NEVER! I already know what you’re going to say, something about 9/11, right? If the U.S. didn’t keep manipulating the politics and religions of the middle east, we probably wouldn’t be such a grand target for religious zealots. Unfortunately, the religious right has taken over politics with an agenda that is scary as hell; literally and figuratively if you think about it. However, I doubt that thinking is truly your area of expertise. Obviously, from your statements, you confuse schooling with education. If you were indeed educated to think, you would find yourself unable to even get past the first page of the bible without realizing that there is a major problem with the bible. [Since you are completely clueless about my reference to the first page, here's a hint: It involves the two great lights which are the sun and the moon. Still don't see the problem? What a surprise.] If you want to pretend that you’re educated, just like you pretend to believe in god, that’s your human given right in this nation. Just don’t expect those of us that ARE educated to look at your pathetic paradigm and placate you by acting like it really works in this world. Keep your god to yourself.

It is funny the way those who profess to be christians insult others in the name of defending the faith. Jesus doesn’t need protectors or defenders. as a matter of fact if He needed I would not have anything to do with Him. Early on defenders were zealots who committed murders and other unmentionable crimes in the name of God. you want to make fun of God, do so. I know a the fate of those who have walked that path.what Jesus really needs are humble spirit filled and faithful witnesses who don’t have to fume with smoke coming through their ears and noses whenever ones “insults” Jesus. that is the only difference of christianity and for example islam or fake christians

Yes, I am a verbal Christian, that does not make me fake. We are called to defend Jesus. I am not one who is going to sit back be passive about the evil in this world. I will go to Heaven fighting for Him. No smoke here, just passion. You love him your way and I will love him mine-don’t insult my beliefs or you are on the same wave as the people you are scolding. You guys thinking that we should impose your Christian beliefs on the people of the Middle East can be equated to the beliefs that the Natives were savages. So your religion enslaved and murdered them. History keeps repeating itself, and you people are no different. The Iraq war is not about our freedom. When are you robotic people going to understand that? Only a simple mind would take the bible literally, and it seems that those same simple minds have been duped into believing that this war is somehow being fought for our freedom. How sad for our military, and don’t go judging me because I gave 6 years of life to this country in the Marine Corps.

Behl, you’ve got to be kidding. You people have never let the atheists run this world. If you did, it would be such a better place. We wouldn’t have the conflicts today with the middle east. We wouldn’t have had the Salem witch trials (witches, how ridiculous is that?). We wouldn’t have had the Spanish Inquisition, or the Crusades, or the enslavement and murder of the natives of the Western Hemisphere. We wouldn’t have the constant persecution of the Jews which eventually led to the holocaust. All because they killed your Christ. Well, didn’t someone have to kill him in order for him to die for your sins? You know you guys even tried to blame the Bubonic Plague on the Jews. Shall I go on, or have you had enough? Christians being passive, that’s laughable!

And one more thing. MARYM, who are you to tell another citizen that they are a disgrace and should leave this country? That’s the problem with the religious right, they are divisive like that. Everyone’s entitled to speak however they want. If it were left up to you, the rest of us would be deported as soon as you got the chance.

Funny thing is that most Christians don’t even follow what Christ taught. Christ was inclusive, no matter what someone’s opinions were, not exclusive. Stanley Seay was right when he said to you that there’s a difference between schooling and education. You need to figure out what the difference is. Don’t try to tell me that I know nothing about the bible either. I grew up under the controlling influences of the Christian right, and I know very much about the bible. Problem is that most Christians don’t. They just take what they are spoonfed by their leaders as their own, instead of finding out the truth themselves. I’m glad that I was able to travel the world and get an “education.”

Remember when the church imprisoned Galileo for coming up with the ridiculous idea that the earth revolved around the sun? He was forced to recant his theories and embarrassed by his peers. How’s that for your great religion? Something to be proud of.

Child Molestation, Murder, drugs and the like are rampant it is because God has been taken out of schools and public areas. So in your “perfect” world, where “everything is okay” to do, to say and to be. Rodney some things are not okay and not right and should be fought for. My nephew is in Iraq now, in Baghdad, he depises your comments -but respects your right to say them-My husband is a marine and your comments embarrased him-and the men in his company laughed at you, but feel good that you have the right to say it. From the beginning of time people have Used religion as an excuse for war, that is true. MaryM and Bethl, you two need to get out more as I have stated before. There’s a whole world out there beyond your dogma and close minded thinking. Ignorance is bliss as they say.

Yeah Bethl, god is sooo great. Tell that to the starving people of the world. Tell that to the women who have their genitals mutilated in the name of god. Oh, I guess that’s the devil’s fault, isn’t it? Again, I could go on, but why bother?

Stop acting like you’re speaking for your nephew. I don’t believe that your husband is embarrassed either. Embarrassed about what? By that comment I don’t believe that a) he knows anything about this conversation, or b) he’s not a marine at all, because Marines aren’t little girls who get “embarrassed” by a colleagues comments. I’m really sure that the whole company laughed at me. Again, they know nothing about this conversation as I’m sure that they don’t have that much time on their hands. More little lies told by Christians.

As far as being bitter or touching nerves…you two need to get over this idea that you have of self importance. Another outstanding quality of the Christian faith.

Funny that you mention child molestation, murder, and drugs as being a by-product of no prayer or no god in the schools. These very same things have been going on in the churches as well. Get it through your heads. Morality has nothing to do with the practice of religion. There were morals before there was religion.

I know one thing for sure, and that’s the fact that neither one of you are “educated” as one of you claimed earlier. Your writing styles and grammar are horrible. There’s no way that either one of you have any better than a high school or junior college education. Explains why you haven’t gotten out much and understood the real workings of the world. You’re easier to brainwash.

That’s ok, it makes it better for you to believe in the great fairy in the sky. In the end you’re happy and I’m happy. Just stop trying to make the rest of us succumb to your ignorant ways and we’ll all get along fine. You practice your silly dogma and I’ll continue to experience mother earth and all of her beauty, while experiencing “this life” and all that it has to offer.

The truth is that none of you know what’s going to happen after you take your last breath, if anything will happen at all.

Oh, and one more thing Bethl. You say that in the end god will prevail. Over what? Over who? What if it’s the god of the muslims? MaryM, what proof do you have that you know “the truth?” Did god tell you this directly? If jesus really did come to earth to be the savior, why not today when man is so technically advanced? Why not come down from the heavens and show everyone now? You know why? Because it’s all fabrication. Faith is nothing but blind hope.

I’ll tell you what. If you happen to come down with an ailment that requires surgery or medicine in order to save your life, why don’t you just leave it to god and forget the surgery? Why do Christians try to hang onto this life so fervently? Why not just let yourself go and get to that perfect place quicker? See how stupid this is all starting to sound?

Yes, there are things going on (horrible things) in the name of god. But are you sure it is the real God?

God will come down to earth in this time of technical advancement and he will do this to kill people such as you – its called the rapture.
