Variety reports that John Goodman has returned to star in medieval drama Pope Joan after settling a legal dispute with Constantin Film. The film also stars David Wenham, telling the story of a 9th century legend of a woman who, disguised as a man, manages to ascend to the papal throne.
Goodman will star as Pope Sergius, with Wenham playing Gerold, a knight who becomes the romantic interest of Joan.
Filming is set to begin next month in the German states of Saxony-Anhalt and North Rhine-Westphalia as well as in Morocco.
