Unforgotten was a nightmare that shocked all of America and rocketed Geraldo Rivera to national prominence, when in 1972, with a stolen key, he entered Staten Island’s Willowbrook State School and revealed conditions in which developmentally disabled children were found to be living in their own filth, with a staff-to-resident ratio of 30- or 40-to-one, and residents had a 100% incidence of hepatitis within the first six weeks of entering Willowbrook.
This is obviously not the most upbeat documentary to have in your library, but a film to refer to as an extraordinary piece of film work. Perhaps more filmmakers should enter these institutions and reveal the heart-wrenching truth of fraud and corruption.
I have an extra copy for a giveaway. Post your name and I will draw the winner October 31st – Halloween. Good luck!!

IF we were to win this video, it would only be to educate others about the atrocities that occur everyday at facilities pretended for the care of others. Not saying that every facility is corrupt, but instances where abuse and/or neglect are unveiled harbor dislike and distrust to the entire system.

Deborah Wellenstein, post #65, is the winner of the shocking tale of Willowbrook. “Unforgotten” documentary is a nightmare that shocked all of America in the early 70’s.
