This is a historic film in content and stature. Historically-based, well-acted with name-actors, well-directed, extremely well-choriographed, outstanding set designs and wardrobes are just the beginning of why it is so important a film. This effort to legitimize the incorportation of artisticly-presented sex into great films was the epitome of the all-too-short movement. The costs of production far outweighed the box-office. Cheap, sleazy sex videos proved to be very profitable, especially in comparison. And the movement for sex-centric, critically-acclaimed, llegitimate cinema soon lay forever trampled in the dust of the porn industry.
