Alexandra Pelosi, the daughter of Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House), will soon be adapting her documentary of George W. Bush’s 2000 Presidential campaign into a fictional movie. What’s odd is that it’s going to be a romance film. If you’re confused at how this will work out – don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Steven Zaillian, the Oscar-winning writer of “Schindler’s List”, reports having seen a “Devil Wears Prada” type tone to the documentary, which is when he convinced Pelosi to make her screenwriting debut with the material from the documentary. So now, at the urging of Zaillian, Pelosi is taking her documentary, “Journeys with George”, and will be adapting for the big screen as a romance flick.
“Alexandra is a talented documentary filmmaker and a great raconteur. She’s been places and seen and done things few of the rest of us have, and I’m excited she’s decided to share her insider perspective and gift for storytelling with us in a screenplay,” said Zaillian.
If you’re still not sure how a documentary of a Presidential campaign can morph into a romance movie, allow me to explain the premise of the film. The movie will center on a “young, impressional news producer who finds herself dealing with the challenges of life and love in the midst of covering a presidential campaign.”
Zaillian seems to be onto something, as Pelosi’s movie idea has already scored a first-look deal with Sony Pictures. Which means if the script works out, this could become a really big deal.
