George Lucas at homeJust when you thought he couldn’t possibly position himself any further from reality, George Lucas comes up with this beauty at the Publicists Guild luncheon.

Presenting an award to Sid Ganis, the in-house publicist for Empire, Lucas dropped this bombshell:

Sid is the reason why The Empire Strikes Back is always written about as the best of the films, when it actually was the worst one.

Maybe he was trying to be funny and failed (we know he struggles with dialogue) but if there was any sincerity there then we can officially stamp CRAZY on his forearm in big red letters.

    Completely disagree with George.

I always tought that the “The Return of the Jedi” was the worst of the three.

Well, I`m not talking about the new ones. They were more than terrible movies. I can describe the feeling.

    Infumables. ^_^

We (the fans) agree unanimously that Empire is by far the best. George Lucas is probably just jealous, because he didn’t direct it, write the screenplay or produce it. I’m sorry, but the dialogue and acting in the pre-quel movies are so lame… and watching A New Hope on it’s own, as if I didn’t know about the other ones, it sucks too. George Lucas has a great imagination and he’s a great story teller; but he can’t write and he can’t direct. I’m so glad he won’t be making any more movies…

The February issue of Vanity Fair magazine’s cover story, Indy’s Back, is about Lucas’ latest production. The man is a genius.

I plan to post a story on the article this week. So, come back and share your thoughts with me.

If you want a good laugh look up “Reasons to hate starwars” I just love it. Though I don’t agree with a couple of the guys opinions he is dead-on on most of them. Every single person I talk to has had some sort of complaint that is similar to those ideas expressed on the afore mentioned site. In my own opinion ,along with all my friends, Lucas is killing the star wars dream! Every time I try to watch the new movies I get so angry I have to turn it off. But when ever I play one of the games or watch the old movies I feel like the fantasy is rejuvinated. I just wish he would stop shooting himself in the foot. I can only think that if this next movie with CGI characters sucks as bad as the others I will never watch anything with his name on it. And if that sounds extremist, maybe it is time I just let him be rich from my past obsessions and die. At least he had the decency to not make the Hobbit. Can you imagine how horrible it would have been. He probably would have created some floppy eared character to Greg Louganis his way into the hearts of all 5 year olds everywhere.

Lucas is nuts to say this. Maybe he had one too many vodkas after his disastrous prequels to the fans, (i guess he finally gave in to the dark side LOL), which have no heart or soul. Irving Kirshner was asked to direct Jedi id way trhough his directing Empire but declined due to an investment of his time of over 3 years in such big project. He also thought the script was not up to par with what he had in mind.
If Empire is such a clunker then that makes George’s prequels look like the 3 turkeys that they deservedly came to be. 3 prequels does not = Empire Strikes Back!! LOL :) )

If you’ve ever seen an interview with George, then your first guess about this quote from him should be that it’s a joke. The man DOES have a sense of humor. This ‘joke’ may not be very funny, but consider the setting – he was at a podium presenting an award at an AWARDS SHOW, people. Come on! You really think he’s going to seriously start ‘ranking’ the Star Wars movies while he’s giving an award to the guy who helped to promote Empire? I really doubt it. Any time anyone is at a podium to present anything, they’re gonna try to make a joke – look in every single ‘public speaking tips’ book ever published for proof and examples. I know we SW fans seem to love to find ways to bash George, but THIS is ridiculous.

George Lucas is correct, at least if he is talking about the original 3. In comparison to 1 and 2, Empire Strikes Back can be quite boring and repetitive (ice scene again)at times. It’s nothing but a bridge between 1 and 3. It’s good but not 1/2 as good as 1 and 3.
