andylau THR carries word that Arclight’s Easternlight label has picked up the rights to Chinese-language sci-fi action film Future X-Cops.

The film stars Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau as a cop who travels back in time to foil a corporate conspiracy against a doctor who has created an alternative energy source that threatens the company’s monopoly on energy resources.

The $20 million project is being directed by Wong Jing, with stunts choreographed by Tony Siu-Tung Chiang, who is known best for House of Flying Daggers. A mainland China release is scheduled for later this year. No western release was mentioned.
