Fox Searchlight announced today that they will be acquiring the worldwide rights to Crazy Heart. The film, which has been getting a lot of buzz lately, stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jeff Bridges, Colin Farrell, and Robert Duvall. Despite being a low budget film, it picked up a handful of popular actors.
“Jeff Bridges delivers the performance of a lifetime,” Searchlight co-toppers Nancy Utley and Steve Gilula said. Bridges stars as an old, alcoholic country star that decides to clean up his act with the help of a reporter (Gyllenhaal) and help mentor a new country star at the peak of his career.
Crazy Heart is currently in post-production, and should be hitting the cinema in 2010. Keep an eye out for a trailer sometime in the future.
