Here’s an unusual development–the series that was doing werewolves and vampires before Twilight made it a kid-friendly fun ride, Underworld, is getting a bit of a boost for its fourth installment.
Seems one of the writers of the celebrated series The Shield has been hired to handle the scripting duties for Underworld 4. Specifically, writer John Hlavin was the writer of choice on this one.
This may be a good move–previous Underworld installments haven’t exactly been long on quality scriptwriting, choosing instead to go after the “woo we’ve got vampires” and “bang bang bang” market segments. And any movie that makes it up to the fourth installment is generally in need of some shoring up in the writing department anyhow lest it get lazy and try to coast on name recognition instead of putting on a good show and telling a good story in the process.
So will a Shield writer provide that necessary boost? Only time will tell.
