Okay…so it took something like the back end of forever for us to finally even get through the numerous court battles over this one, but cheer up, Tolkienites–because the first script for The Hobbit has apparently been settled and is put to bed.
And what will further make you happy, the studios are apparently raving over it and terribly happy about the whole thing, so the chances of it needing edits and rewrites and such are vanishingly small.
Of course, did anyone really look for the script to need a whole lot of rewriting? The script could’ve been written by blind monkeys at typewriters with a copy of the book attached “for reference” and the studio probably STILL would’ve flipped. For crying out loud, it’s The Hobbit. Does anyone actually think that the base for this movie would stay away under any circumstances?
They could’ve got Chris Crocker to play Gandalf and you STILL wouldn’t be able to keep people out!
But still…the studios are happy, the lawyers are happy, and the fans, after hearing this, should be plenty happy. Let’s leave it at that.
