Universal are smart puppies. They’ll be airing the Evan Almighty trailer at some point during tonight’s The Office marathon on NBC. It’s smart because Carell fans will be already be watching, but it also marks Carell’s ascendancy from The Daily Show sidekick to blockbustering superstar.

He’s basically the new Jim Carrey, especially as he’s stepping up to essentially replace Carrey in the mini-Almighty franchise. The only difference is Carell hasn’t been in a stinker like The Number 23, yet.

Gives me an idea though: Maybe Universal could keep this whole Almighty thing going by giving different comedians a chance to play God? Maybe Chris Rock next time, maybe Jerry Seinfeld, maybe The Naked Trucker and T-Bones could share duties. Actually scratch that, it’s a terrible idea, except for The Naked Trucker and T-Bones bit.
