Enchanted director Kevin Lima is set to direct Thumb, a feature version of the diminutive folklore character called Tom Thumb.
Thumb is set up to be live-action movie with Tom Thumb possibly being depicted as a CG character.
The movie might be fast-tracked plans to journey to the origin of Thumb’s story. I don’t blame them with the success of Enchanted.
The story is a comedy-adventure based on an original screenplay by Saving Private Ryan scribe Robert Rodat to look at the heroism that a knight must muster after he is reduced to a pint size.
Tom Thumb is a British legend that dates back to 1500s; the tiny hero is known for getting himself into tomfoolery in his parents’ home while ultimately ending up in the castle of King Arthur.
There have been a number of big screen takes on the character over the years, including a live-action musical from MGM in 1958 and a darker animated BBC film in 1993.
Not only has Lima had success with Enchanted, but he co-directed Disney’s Tarzan, which grossed $435 million in 1999.
