The remake-machine at Hollywood is going to churn out the remake of Drop Dead Fred for Russell Brand to star in.
In development at Universal Pictures, the film is being written by Dennis McNicholas (Land of the Lost); Marc Platt is producing via Marc Platt Productions along with Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
The original, released back in 1991, starred Phoebe Cates who loses her job and husband during the course of a lunch hour. Now coming back home, she reimagines her childhood imaginary friend who promises to help but causes more problems.
Brand is set to play the imaginary friend. The update is said to be in the same vein as Beetlejuice, building an universe around the concept of imaginary friends.
