‘The Great Debaters” opens on Christmas Day starring two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and an ensemble cast directed by Washington. Cast includes Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker. “The Great Debaters” is inspired by a true story that delineates the journey of Professor Melvin Tolson (Denzel Washington). Tolson works with a exceptional but volatile debate team. He uses the power of words to shape a group of underdog students from a small African American college in the Deep South. The debate team becomes a historically elite. A controversial figure, Professor Tolson tests the social mores of the time, using unconventional and ferocious teaching approaches as well as his radical political views.

Sounds like a predictable ending but an inspiration to us all.
