The inevitable has happened: The Dark Knight has taken in more than $1 billion in worldwide box office. It is only the fourth film to do so.
Warner Bros made the announcement yesterday afternoon, stating that the combined domestic and international gross has totaled $1,001,082,160 to date. Half of this figure was made domestically – about $533 million.
Titanic, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest are the only films to have crossed the magic number.

The Dark Knight was defiantly the best movie of the year, and I’m rooting for a clean sweep at the Oscars. I agree with a recent reader written review I read of the movie on EverHype (www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc) that gave the movie 4.5 stars and called it “Fantastic.” Heath Ledger deserves the award especially – I couldn’t sleep for nights after watching him play the Joker.
