Dario Argento’s The Third Mother to Premiere in RomeMay 21st, 2007 in Directors, Festivals, horror |

One of the most anticipated horror films of this year is Dario Argento’s The Third Mother. The film is a sequel to Suspiria from 1977 and Inferno, made in 1980. In spite of the commercial success of Suspiria, Argento’s films since then have not consistently been available theatrically, and have been often subject to editing by the distributors. The DVD releases of Argento’s films have preserved his legacy and reputation as one of the greatest horror filmmakers. A new print of Suspiria is getting a special 30th Anniversary screening at Cannes this week.
The newest film will premiere at the RomaCinemaFest, which begins October 18. The Third Mother is something of a family affair, starring Dario Argento’s daughter, Asia Argento, as an art student in Rome who finds a mysterious urn. Daria Nicolodi, Asia’s mother and Dario’s former partner in life and filmmaking, also has a role in the film as Asia’s on screen mother. Included in the cast are cult film favorites Udo Kier and Philippe Leroy. Music is by Claudio Simonetti, famous for creeping out audiences with his scores for Suspiria and Deep Red. Long-time fans of Dario Argento are hoping their patience will be rewarded this Fall.
