Coen Brothers Wins Online Film Critics

January 9th, 2008 in Awards, Movie News

nocountryforoldmen_bigposter.jpg“No County for Old Men,” directed by the Coen brothers won big at the 11th annual Online Film Critics Society Awards. They took home six kudos — best picture. The neo-Western, adapted from a Cormac McCarthy novel. The thriller stars Tommy Lee Jones and Javier Bardem (he’s winning a lot of awards.) The Coen duo won for director. Other awards given to the film were adapted screenplay, editing, cinematography and supporting actor (Bardem).

No surprise here: Daniel Day-Lewis won best actor for playing an oil man in “There Will Be Blood.” Yes, yes, my favorite, Julie Christie won best actresses for “Away From Her.”

The Online Film Critics Society, an international professional org of Web-based film journalists from around the world founded in 1997, presents the awards. Variety has a complete list of winners.

Yeah, no surprises. But I’d never even heard of these awards before. The number of obscure awards these days is really ridiculous.

  2. Kenna McHugh Says:

    Yes, no surprises.

The awards are getting abundant. Online journalists is a growing group, that doesn’t surprise me either.

Sure we have the Oscars, Globes, Emmy, Grammies, Critics(many groups) but online is a medium that is substantial and does effect those who go to the box office. Hence, the marketing department of the film and television industry know too.
