Just off the heels of huge opening of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa Chris Rock is partnering with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Sony’s Screen Gems to rework the 2007 British comedy Death at a Funeral.
Rock plans to produce, co-write with Aeysha Carr and star in the black comedy.
The original feature was written by Dean Craig and directed by Frank Oz.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the ensemble comedy will take place in an urban American setting and centers on a funeral ceremony that devolves into a debacle of misplaced cadavers, indecent exposure and family secrets. The cast will be primarily black, supplanting the earlier, England-set version’s British cast.
A director hasn’t been nabbed yet, but plans are to start production in the spring.

Chris Rock is very funny but he also is one of the biggest racists on the planet. The boy is very funny to the blacks and ensures maximum appreciation to them. However Asians and Whites are ribbed without problem. If in the UK a White comedian took the piss as Mr Rock does we can be prosecuted and i dare say this is as the USA. Get a life! you are no longer persecuted
