Even if you hate the Saw franchise, you simply cannot look away from the grim sequences of death, as well as the brilliant twists and turns. Keeping that in mind, the fifth film is set to open in theaters October 24, and to anticipate the film’s release, Lionsgate has sent out the first teaser poster.

It is not known if the man depicted in the picture is a returning character or not. The film will see Hoffman tie up loose ends as his secret (as Jigsaw’s apprentice) is threatened. Tobin Bell, Julie Benz, Costas Mandylor, Scott Patterson and Mark Rolston are set to star.

Wicked, Bloody ‘Steel Trap’

June 26th, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Awards, Directors, Dvd, horror

The DVD box art alone gives me nightmares. Steel Trap comes from Chicago Underground Film Festival Award-winning director, Luis Cámara, wicked imagination of a gruesome story of a vengeful masked killer hosting a unique party game that turns out to be deadly.  Five pseudo-celebrities bored with a New Year’s Eve celebration on the top of an abandoned skyscraper jump at the chance of attending an exclusive V.I.P. party on the 27th floor but when the party is crashed by a vicious maniac, they quickly realize they will not be ringing in a new year with a smile.

Full of puzzles, twists and blood-splattering terror, Steel Trap is a gore-filled horror film in the vein of Saw and Hostel.  For all horror junkies, a giveaway is coming up this week.

Carter’s New Project

June 25th, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Directors, Idle Speculation, The Movie Biz, Thriller, Uncategorized, horror

The X-Files creator, Chris Carter, keeps secrets very well and it’s understandable that he kept his latest movie under wraps for a very long time.

Fencewalker, a dark drama that stars upstarts, is filming right now in Los Angeles with Carter directing Natalie Dormer, Katie Cassidy, Xzibit, Derek Magyar and Meckah Brooks.

Representatives for the director and actor would not confirm they were filming.

The story is essentially a coming-of-age semiautobiographical character piece with no supernatural elements.

A distributor has not picked up the film; however on a modest budget Carter, who wrote the script for what is thought to be his passion project some time ago, raised the financing himself.

‘Twilight’ Widget

June 18th, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Action, Actors, Adventure, Book-to-Movie, Fantasy, Movie News, horror

“Twilight” the movie now has a Widget.  You can send E-cards, watch videos and check out photos.

“Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”   I’d like to see him in this role; he’d be good.

Although I have never read the book “Twilight,”  I hear it has a big following with 30 weeks and counting on the New York Times Bestseller list.  With a December 12th opening, it appears it’ll be a box office success.

Teaser Poster and Trailer — ‘Punisher: War Zone’

June 18th, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Movie News, The Movie Biz, Thriller, horror

This poster is not my favorite of posters.  Perhaps, some of you like it.

The movie is about a man waging his one-man war on the world of organized crime, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias:  Jigsaw.  With the “Punisher Task Force” hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.

Starring Ray Stevenson (HBO’s “Rome”) as Punisher, PUNISHER: WAR ZONE is directed by Lexi Alexander.

 Check out the trailer.

Bustillo and Maury to Direct Halloween Sequel?

June 2nd, 2008 by Hollywood in Box Office, Directors, Movie News, Movies, horror

halloween

Word has it that Dimension Films is in talks with Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury about directing the the sequel to Rob Zombie’s Halloween.

Having directed several French horror films, Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury are sure to be a good choice of directors for the sequel.

Although, with Halloween netting $78 million worldwide, is it really smart to change directors from Rob Zombie? I mean, the whole reason people go to see Rob Zombie’s films is because they are directed by Rob Zombie, right?
