A new version of “Bad Lieutenant” is in the works with Nicolas Cage as the star. The updated 1992 version will be announced during Cannes with filming to begin in late summer.
I wish they would just say they are making a new movie, not a remake. They are updating the 1992 version. Who’s going to notice?
The original film starred Harvey Keitel the story followed the depraved New York police officer of the title, who was heavily involved in drugs, gambling, sex and stealing.

Kenna, I could not agree with you more! What’s the deal? If someone was inspired by the original, why not use that inspiration to create a film that reflects the same type of aura- and let it have it’s own personality! They could say- “a film done in the vein of Bad Lieutenant”- good enough for me. Leave that “remake” junk alone!

Exactly, then the producers can pay the “writer” or “created by” a percentage or upfront fee for the inspiration. I am sure there is a clause with the WGA that covers that aspect of the business.
