Bill Murray is finally coming out of hiding. He’s now signed on to star in the Walden Media project City of Ember, an interesting fantasy flick based off the novel of the same name by Jeanne DuPrau.

Other notable cast members who’ve signed on for the project include Toby Jones (Infamous, The Mist) and Saoirse Ronan (Atonement).

The book is about an insular, dark place that lacks any light whatsoever, except for the small bit of illumination that is emitted from street lamps. But one day, the street lamps begin to dim, the power source failing. The movie is set to cover the adventure of finding out why this is happening, and what might exist beyond this strange world.

It sounds pretty interesting, and is being directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House). With Murray onboard, this has a good chance of being a hit, and is already being slated for a fall 2008 release.
