Imagine that. Another movie that also will strike a chord with this generation, as well as an older generation, will be coming out in theaters this fall. This time, its in the form of Berkeley, a movie about a college kid coming of age and finding himself amidst the the changes the United States itself was experiencing during the late 1960’s Vietnam War era.
Sex, drugs, rock n’ roll, and revolution. It’s 1968 and 18-year-old Ben Sweet (Nick Roth), who was brought up in a well-off middle class conservative family, is thrust into the wild and wacky world of UC Berkeley when he enrolls to study accounting to avoid the draft.
When Ben arrives on campus, to say that he was naive about politics and the world going on around him would be a bit of an understatement. He’s not the slightest bit prepared for the new life he is about to encounter. Through his music and writing, and the sounds of Hendrix and Clapton, Ben faces an awakening. Finding himself, Ben joins in with his fellow students, calling for change in both social equality and the war through rallies, protests, and song.
As history tells us, this new culture of opposition and defiance grows and spreads across the US like one of those out-of-control California wildfires we see on the news every year. And no where in the United States is this culture more alive and thriving than it is at Berkeley.
Berkeley will see a limited release in theaters beginning October 12th. The trailer has now been posted to the official movie website at http://www.berkeleythefilm.com/.
