Mischa Barton, Bruce Willis, and Rumer Willis (Bruce’s daughter), have all signed on for roles in The Sophomore, a dark comedy by the Yari Film Group.
The film is supposed to be a teenage adapatation of the film Chinatown, where Barton plays a popular Catholic high school student. At her school, Barton’s character persuades a sophomore reporter to investigate SAT exam thefts. However, once it is revealed that the school’s president and a top jock are responsible, a more sinister conspiracy begins to emerge.
Bruce Willis stars as the school’s corrupt and twisted principal, a Desert Storm vet who can’t let go of the glory days in Kuwait. Rumer Willis plays a troublemaking sidekick to Barton’s character.
The film was original titled Assassination of a High School President, but was renamed to just The Sophomore.
The script is being written by Tim Calpin and Kevin Jakubowski, while the film will be directed by Brett Simon. The movie is being produced by Bob Yari, as well as Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment. Production is scheduled to begin in August.
