spider-man-4-promoI was afraid of this…Sam Raimi, you’d best get Earl Dittman on the big red phone like hasta pronto because you’re going to need a tame quote.

Turns out that Spider Man 4 might have a serious problem on its hands, like a villain overload sort of problem.  We all know that that was one of the big problems with Spidey 3–oh, sure, having Venom in there was great, but the problem was he should’ve been the only one in there (and he damn sure shouldn’t have been played by Topher Grace, I mean, COME on–Eddie Brock, huge surly bodybuilding psycho played by the closest thing to a stick figure in Hollywood since Kate Moss? Really, Sam Raimi?  Really?) instead of distracting everybody with the Sandman.

So originally, only The Lizard was going to show up as the villain…at least until they started talking about The Lizard…and The Vulture…and The Vultress…who used to be the Black Cat.

You see where this is going.  Another phone book of villains is going to get tossed in here, and Spidey Four will start looking like Spidey Three, except possibly without Emo Spidey.  And that may, just barely, make four better than three if for no other reason than it’s hard to be much WORSE.

I hope they don’t overload Spidey 4 with Super Villains, just give us The Vulture and have The Lizard turn in the end to set up the fifth movie
