“Arrested Development” Movie Spin-off in the Works

“Arrested Development” was a much-loved television show, having departed in just its third season, much to the dismay of its fans. But it wasn’t making them enough money, and in this biz, that’s what it’s all about. Fans of the show may, however, be pleased with this latest bit of gossip: a film spinoff of the popular show is in the works.
E! Online officially broke the news, after obtaining some info from Jason Bateman that the show’s producers, Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard, “have put the wheels in motion” for a feature film version of “Arrested Development.” Like the rest of the film world, this project is dependent on the strike’s resolution.
Nevertheless, this is what Bateman had to say about the film:
“I can confirm that a round of sniffing has started. Any talk is targeting a poststrike situation, of course. I think, as always, that it’s a question of whether the people with the money are willing to give our leader, Mitch Hurwitz, what he deserves for his participation. And I can speak for the cast when I say our fingers are crossed.”
E! reports that Hurwitz doesn’t yet have a script written, but does have “a good, solid understanding of what he’d like to do for the movie, and Universal is very much interested.”
