Apocalypto breaks UK box office recordThe ups and downs of Apocalypto rumble on. Now Mel Gibson’s film has broken the opening weekend box office record for a foreign language film in the UK. It took in $2,625,689 on it’s release, eclipsing previous record holder Hero, which took $1,941,253.

But isn’t it misleading to call Apocalypto a foreign language film? Yes it’s all in Yucatec Mayan, but it’s a blockbuster action film to the very core, made by an American studio and Gibson’s high profile meaning it’s really just like any other Hollywood film, with a release and advertising budget to match.
