Michael Winterbottom will direct Casey Affleck and Jessica Alba in the remake of The Killer Inside Me, a version of the novel from noir author Jim Thompson.

The story tracks the downward spiral of a West Texas sheriff (Affleck) from a bored to death small-town cop into a cunning, coldblooded, sociopathic murderer.

Alba plays a prostitute.

The novel was made into a 1976 film starring Stacy Keach.

Winterbottom’s last project was A Mighty Heart, starring Angelina Jolie.
