A Sandler/Schneider Movie I Actually Want to See?March 15th, 2007 in Actors, Celebs, Comedy |
There was a time when I looked forward to an Adam Sandler movie, and that time was five minutes before the start of Billy Madison. Since then, I’ve had to accept the fact that whatever the general public finds appealing about the guy’s work completely escapes me, but I have learned to just go to my happy place and forget about it. Then I read this:
Rob Schneider is set to join Adam Sandler in the comedy, You Don’t Mess With the Zohan for Columbia Pictures… Judd Apatow, Robert Smigel and Sandler wrote the story that centers around a Mossad agent (Sandler) who fakes his death so he can move to New York and become a hair stylist, says The Hollywood Reporter; Schneider’s character is an East Yistannen cab driver.
For those that missed it, that’s Judd Apatow, director of The 40-Year-Old Virgin (and the upcoming Knocked Up, which I am convinced will be fantastic), and Robert Smigel, creator of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and Comedy Central’s sublime (but, of course, canceled) TV Funhouse. Smigel and Sandler have worked together on and off since the star’s Saturday Night Live days. How they joined up with Apatow will likely remain a mystery until the unveiling of the DVD’s bland behind-the-scenes featurette. No director is mentioned in the story, but it will likely be one of Sandler’s high school drinking buddies.
I… I am actually tempted to see another Sandler movie. Does this mean I have to repent now, for the end of times are at hand? Or is this one of those, “wait around long enough and a 1958 Ford Fairlane will spontaneously create itself” kind of things?

Judd Apatow of course was a creator for the short lived and great college comedy Undeclared. It was helped out by Adam Sandler who per the DVD commentary was a college room mate of Apatow’s. He also appeared on the show and had some involvement in the writing.
