A new film announced from Horror Master ArgentoJanuary 19th, 2008 in Directors, Movie News, Thriller, horror |
Like some of the characters in his films, Dario Argento’s career has proven to have a new lease on life.  In addition to having shot two episodes for the “Masters of Horror” series on Showtime, Argento’s newest film, Mother of Tears, is scheduled to be his first to have major international distribution in almost twenty years. Argento has been credited with helping popularize the term “giallo”, the Italian word for yellow which marked the covers of Italian and British paperback thrillers - the kind of books that provided the basis for the Italian film thrillers that peaked in the Seventies. Giallo films have received renewed popularity thanks to their increasing availability on DVD, and serious studies like Tim Lucas’ mammoth study of Mario Bava. Now Argento is preparing a new film to be titled, are you ready, Giallo. The film is to star daughter Asia Argento, Ray Liotta and Vincent Gallo. No other details are available at this time. Dario Argento will probably never make another film as good as Suspiria, but as usual, I am looking forward to his future work. On my DVD shelf, there’s always room for giallo!
