Hollywood Walk of Fame Honors Durning

July 31st, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Actors, Awards, Movie News, broadway

Charles Durning has been in at least a hundred films, he is a World War II hero, dancer and award-winning actor. Today we can honestly say Charles Durning has lived a storied life. The 85-year-old added to that tale a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next to one for his idol, James Cagney.

Charles Durning has always been one of my favorite actors, he’s so versatile with a very warm personality that comes through even when he’s playing a desperate man.  I am very happy for him.

Terminator: Salvation Teaser Poster

July 31st, 2008 by Rajiv Ashrafi in Action, Sci-Fi, Sequels

terminator_salvation_full
The very first teaser poster for Terminator: Salvation has made it online, following its debut at Comic-Con. As you can see by now, the poster details the bullet-ridden face of a scary-looking Terminator with red glowing eyes.

Looks pretty awesome to me, and hopefully the movie will follow suit.

The fourth movie in the series stars Christian Bale as John Connor, leader of the human resistance, as he fights the machines in a post-apocalyptic world.

Catch the Midnight Meat Train for Cheap

July 31st, 2008 by Rajiv Ashrafi in Writers, horror

MidnightMeatTrain-1 Proving that the suits always make bad decisions, Shock reports that Midnight Meat Train is getting a limited theatrical release… in fact, a very limited one. It will be available in bargain theaters across the country. This means that you can catch this well-received film at venues where ticket prices are only one to two dollars.

Ryuhei Kitamura’s adaptation of the classic Clive Barker short story has met with much antagonism from the suits at Lionsgate, who offered a limited release to fulfill its deal with production company Lakeshore. Following petitions, including one with support from the author himself, the suits went for a meeting with Barket which “did not go well.”

Catch the movie if you can. Read the story – it’s awesome. If you can’t watch the movie, then wait for the DVD release. There’s nothing much we can do at this point.

July 31st, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Action, Adventure, Directors, Idle Speculation, Movie News, horror

Speaking of Spider-man, Sam Raimi is headed to Disney because the studio picked up The Transplants. The film is a high-concept project with a superhero slant, an action-adventure pitch from scribes Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson for the filmmaker to produce.

With Disney and Raimi teaming up on Transplants means the studio might be going horror, which is not a traditional move by Disney.

‘Venom’ Feature From ‘Spider-man’

July 31st, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Action, Actors, Adventure, Book-to-Movie, Movie News

Sony decided to move forward with Venom, a likely Spider-man spinoff based on a horrific guy.  The project stems from the gooey nemesis that appeared in Spider-man 3. The plan is to create a franchise like Wolverine grew from X-men.

As you will recall In Spider-Man 3, Venom is basically a parasite that attaches itself to a host via a sticky substance that then gives the host special powers.

Sony is creating a fourth Spider-Man movie for 2011.

Pitt Closer to ‘Bastards’

July 31st, 2008 by Kenna McHugh in Action, Actors, Adventure, Celebs, Directors, Movie News

Quentin Tarantino’s WWII project Inglorious Bastards has finally found the star Brad Pitt is in negotiations to play Lieut. Aldo Raine. I did mention it here a couple of weeks ago that Pitt was Tarantino’s ideal actor for the Lieutenant. (A source says rumors that Tarantino is also courting Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Col. Hans Landa are false.) After three weeks of very public negotiations — and after everyone with a Hollywood zip code has seemingly seen a copy of the script — sources say the movie will land at Universal Pictures.

Entertainment Weeky reported the deal making has been handed off to the studio’s lawyers, and while nothing is set in stone, it appears that the studio will partner with Tarantino and producer/domestic distributor Harvey Weinstein to co-finance the film and handle international distribution.
