Vegetable Pirates in ‘VeggieTales’

December 31st, 2007 by Kenna McHugh in Children, Fun/Entertainment, Movie News

vegies.jpg“The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything – A VeggieTales Movie” Opens January 11, 2008! The creators of 2002’s “Jonah—A VeggieTales Movie” have teamed up to bring us a new story of heroism in the beloved “VeggieTales” world, “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything!” The film tells many comic misadventures of the three animated veggie pals that any child or adult — young at heart – can enjoy.

These won’t be vegetables you’ll want to eat; but you will sure enjoy the movie. My daughter loves watching “VeggieTales” — not all the time — but she gets a kick out of the stories and veggie characters.

Check out their web site: “VeggieTales” and have some adventurous fun!

‘A Christmas Story’ Marathon Highest Ever Viewers

December 31st, 2007 by Kenna McHugh in Christmas, TV

200px-christmasstoryposter.JPG“A Christmas Story” with Ralphie Parker’s personal drive to obtain a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas still captivates TV viewers.

Records were set on TBS last week during its 11th annual 24-hour marathon of the 1983 holiday movie. The marathon started at 8 p.m. Christmas Eve. The story revolves around a youngster, Ralphie, in 1940s Indiana. He desires very much a BB gun for Christmas despite frequent admonitions that he will shoot his eye out.

Reuters reported that according to Nielsen Media Research, the marathon showing of “A Christmas Story” scored its best-ever average delivery in total viewers (2.8 million) as well as in such key demos as adults 18-34 (775,000), adults 18-49 (1.6 million) and adults 25-54 (1.5 million).

I saw “A Christmas Story” performed as a play at the B Street Theater in Northern California. It was quite good and recommend anyone who has a chance to see it as a play, do so, you will be entertained.

Jolie Vote 2007 Do-gooder

December 31st, 2007 by Kenna McHugh in Actors, Awards, Celebs

tomb.jpgAngelina Jolie topped Reuters poll released on Thursdaygrili.jpg, December 28, 2007, as the best celebrity humanitarians of 2007.

“Hollywood star Jolie commanded the greatest public respect of all celebrity public do-gooders this year due to her work as a U.N. goodwill ambassador and as the adoptive mother tried to raise awareness of suffering in Africa.”

I am happy for Angelina. I have always liked her honesty and hard work in such films as “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”– Kick… Girl!! Not to mention, truthful and Academy Award winning performance in “Girl, Interrupted.”

jgardner.jpgActress Jennifer Garner has been honored by her hometown newspaper, The Sunday Gazette-Mail, as the 2007 West Virginian of the Year. The newspaper picked her because she is dedicated, works hard and serves as ambassador and role model for West Virginia.

In an email interview with the Gazette-Mail: “To me, most states are very similar. There are very few that have their own personality, so of course I feel like every West Virginian has a little something special that makes them different.”

Garner is on Broadway with the starring role along side Kevin Kline in “Cyrano de Bergerac” as well as in the new critically applauded film “Juno,” and has two more films shoot.

By the way, she is married to Ben Affleck with a 2-year old daughter named Violet.

8th ‘Potter’ Book?

December 31st, 2007 by Kenna McHugh in Awards, Books, Celebs, Children, Sequels

Time magazine named J.K. Rowling Runner-up, 175_rowling_1231.jpg#3 2007 Person of the Year. (Good picking Time!)

In an interview with Time, J.K. Rowling speculated writing an 8th installment of “Harry Potter.” Only this time it would cover another character saying she’s told the story of Harry Potter.

But don’t get your hopes up because Rowling says it’s only speculation. Perhaps 10 years from now, she’ll think different and write the 8th book.

Currently, she is working on an adult novel and a political fairy tale.

Check out 10 questions Rowling answers about Harry Potter at Time magazine’s web site.

Robin Williams Opens ‘Late Show’

December 31st, 2007 by Kenna McHugh in Actors, Celebs, TV

robin-williams-ps01.jpgDavid Letterman definitely knows how to score big time when he listens and settles with the writers. The latenighter’s first guest since November 5th black out is Robin Williams. I am sure we will hear plenty of jokes from Williams about the strike and black out.

As far as other latenighters, it appears that they are all returning Wednesday with Letterman the only one using writers.

Jay Leno, as I mentioned here before, is talking politics on his opener with Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee.

In regards to the others? I haven’t heard a thing.

‘Legend’ Tops the Foreign Market

December 31st, 2007 by Kenna McHugh in Box Office, Movie News, Sci-Fi, The Movie Biz

legend.jpg“I am Legend,” Will Smith’s starrer film, took Box Day in the U. K. and stole the show, bringing in $21.8 million for the weekend alone. The total overseas market for the weekend brought ‘Legend’ to the top finishing out 2007 as the winner with $46.1 million. The complete foreign market box office total is $117 million and the complete totals of the whole market, including the US, is $311 million. Not bad for just opening in the US December 14th.

Even more markets overseas for ‘Legend’ to tap into yet could keep the sci-fi film in front at the box office.

‘Pettigrew’ Looks Like a Fun Movie

December 31st, 2007 by Kenna McHugh in Book-to-Movie, Comedy, Movie News, Movies, The Movie Biz

miss-pettigrew-poster.jpgWritten by David Magee (”Finding Neverland”) and Simon Beaufoy (”The Full Monty”), “Misses Pettigrew Lives for a Day,” definitely is a must see film. Look at the star quality: Academy Award winner Frances McDormand as Miss Guinevere Pettigrew and Academy Award nominee Amy Adams as Delysia Lafosse.

Based on a novel by Winifried Watson, “Pettigrew” is a sophisticated and heartfelt comedy that takes places in 1939 as a romantic tale. Pettigrew, a middle aged governess, finds herself unfairly dismissed from her occupation. An attempt to gain new employment throws her up into the glamorous world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and singer, Lafosse. Within minutes Miss Pettigrew finds herself swept into a heady high-society milieu — and, by the end of the day, discovers her own romantic destiny.

France McDormand is a sure fire actress that we all know we can count on for a top performance, and with Amy Adams fresh from her hit “Enchanted” we can’t but have certainty the the whole comedy will be entertaining and a fun ride.
